Artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and regulations worldwide. Today’s top stories include OpenAI’s historic funding round, groundbreaking AI legislation in Southeast Asia, and surprising workplace AI adoption trends.
OpenAI Secures Record $110 Billion Funding Round
OpenAI announced a $110 billion funding round on Friday, more than doubling its previous record raise from a year ago. Amazon invested $50 billion, Nvidia contributed $30 billion, and SoftBank added another $30 billion, pushing OpenAI’s pre-money valuation to $730 billion.
“We’re super excited about this deal,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “AI is going to happen everywhere. It’s transforming the whole economy, and the world needs a lot of collective computing power to meet the demand.”
In addition to the investment, Amazon announced a multiyear strategic partnership with OpenAI to develop customized models for Amazon’s customer-facing applications. OpenAI is also expanding its existing $38 billion agreement with Amazon Web Services by $100 billion over the next eight years.
According to Business Insider, the funding represents “everyone else against Google” in the AI race, with OpenAI’s corporate backers being fierce Google rivals.
Vietnam Becomes First Southeast Asian Nation with Comprehensive AI Law
A law regulating artificial intelligence went into effect in Vietnam on Sunday, making it the first country in Southeast Asia with a comprehensive framework on the booming technology. The legislation establishes guidelines for AI development, deployment, and ethical use across the country.
Uber Employees Build AI Clone of CEO for Meeting Preparation
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed that some employees have created an AI clone of him called “Dara AI” to prepare for meetings. “One of my team members told me that some teams have built a ‘Dara AI,'” Khosrowshahi said on a recent episode of the Diary of a CEO podcast, as highlighted by Futurism. “They basically make the presentation to the Dara AI as a prep for making a presentation to me.”
Khosrowshahi also noted that 90 percent of Uber’s coders are using AI at work, with a third being “power users.” He predicted AI will eventually make Uber’s software engineers 25 percent more efficient.
Microsoft Pursues AI “Self-Sufficiency” After OpenAI Deal Changes
Microsoft’s AI head Mustafa Suleyman said the company is pursuing “true self-sufficiency” in AI by developing its own powerful models and reducing dependence on OpenAI, The Financial Times reported. The move signals Microsoft’s intention to maintain competitive AI capabilities independent of its partnership with OpenAI.
Trump Administration Targets State AI Regulations
A recent executive order signed by President Donald J. Trump aims to limit the influence states have in AI regulation debates. The order, reported by The Regulatory Review, discourages states from adopting or enforcing AI regulations that conflict with federal policy.
The order establishes a litigation task force, directs federal agencies to review state and federal laws that restrict AI growth, and authorizes withholding federal funds from noncompliant states. Titled “Ensuring a National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence,” the order seeks to ensure that U.S. AI companies can innovate without “cumbersome regulations.”
AI Companies Become Top Government Lobbyists
OpenAI and Anthropic spent $3.13 million and $2.99 million, respectively, on direct federal lobbying in 2025—more than ever, according to regulatory disclosures reviewed by Forbes. That’s on top of approximately $300,000 per company to lobby in California.
The two companies are pushing for friendly treatment and less regulation amid rising tensions with the Trump administration, particularly for Anthropic, which recently had a dispute with the U.S. Department of Defense over a $200 million contract.
